I have been trying to identify this lantern. It has a machined brass base, with a striker of some kind. The name on it seems to be ARF--. Any help would be appreciated .

It looks to be a coal mine lantern. Never saw one with a red lens though.
Could be railroad..but I would bet it was from a mine..It looks like a blast-proof construction.
Late reply, I've just signed up. Here's my guess ARF may be ARP - Air Raid Precautions. If so, this might have been used in British cities during the German bombing raids to mark road dangers.
