I cant seem to find any information on the age or the maker of this old chisel, all it says is that it is "Sheffield made" and the name given to this chisel is "The Billy", also stamped into the neck is "finest crucible steel".
I noticed that the steel is very hard and brittle, holds a good edge too?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My grandfather, Laky Piers (Pispiris) owned the "Billy" Tools company and it operated from the 1930's until 1955 when he died. I don't know if my grandmother sold the company or just closed it down. It made tools such as you have, and these were sent all over the UK and Europe (possibly elsewhere) - the crates were custom made once all the tools were gathered together. The company also made cutlery. I hope this helps a little!

Hi Penelope, thank you for this information, it really helps to know this chisel was made with so much heart & soul, back in those days the quality was unrivaled, I will be passing this onto my Sons to cherish and admire for all time! I have also now attached a period correct handle to compliment this fine instrument. Regards Michael.
