I have a nice little Unicorn mantle Clock with Cathedral Chimes (Chimes the hour and once on the half) Not an expensive clock when made, but a good quality movement nonetheless. Art Deco styling and a manufacture date in February 1955. It requires little work other than case restoration, which I will keep as original as practical. The movement has been serviced and shows minimal wear. I'll post some final pics when it's done. I actually have the history of this one, which is rare indeed. Belonged to the manager of a sugar mill here in Sydney, presented to him by the company and sat on his desk for 40 odd years. Also found the original instructions within the clock, another relatively rare occurrence. I've already pulled it down so it's hardware is missing from this pic. Pic 1 is from the original owner and shows the clock before any restoration. Thanks for looking.
Wow Paul, the wood is awesome on this piece....great job as always
It makes it even better when there is a story behind it :)
Thanks Bryan and Trey. For a relatively cheap clock when made, the veneer really is amazing, great depth and a real glow when french polished. The cabinet, or case, did require a minute amount of re-veneer and that worked out fine.
It is great to have the history and I also think it's interesting. But, mostly no one knows where they've been, having probably passed through a number of hands, the history is lost. But, the clock remains. Now sold, the guy who bought it, without knowing any of it's history, told me where he works; you guessed it, the same sugar company, not the same mill, but what a coincidence.
Wow that is a cool story :)
