This is a 1893 singer sewing machine model VS2. I called singer and they said it was made on October 31, 1893. The foot pedal and needle stil work. It's in good condition, still with paint, s/n, etc. my mother got it from her grandmother and were trying to determine how much we could get for it and so on. Hi, my name is butch an i have the same sewing machine this was made in september 20,1893 and i still have all the acces. including the wood top and 3 manuals from 1893 i was just wondering if you might know the value of your sewing machine.
Butch : I fix and restore antique and vintage sewing machines as a hobby and small business out of my home . I have stated over and over again to many on this web site . It all has to do with condition . Just because a machine is old it does not make it worth a lot of money . It needs to be in good working order , not just have the needle go up and down , it needs to form a stitch ( actuality sew ) . The more of the original paint and decals the better . The condition of the cabinet is also important to the value . It is almost impossible to give a true value of any machine without seeing it in person . You can look on E-Bay and see what machines like yours may be selling for . That will give you " SOME IDEA " . It is not a true guide . Anything is only worth what someone may be willing to pay for it . However I buy machines like the one above for around $25.00 here in Missouri . Some like this have even been given away . I have come home quite a few times to find machines like the one above without the cabinet sitting on my front porch . The most I have ever paid for a Treadle Singer machine was $200.00 and I paid that just to get the nice cabinet for another more collectable machine to go into .
In the process of purchasing an 1891 similar to above, wish they went for $25 out here in WA! In the meantime, there is some water damage on the top cabinet. Since I am purchasing to use, sounds like there aren't an major downsides to resurfacing the cabinet top (e.g. new veneer)?
