Native American or African?

At first I thought this to be Native American, but I'm beginning to think it may be African. The bottom of it is leather, and I'm not sure what the material is. It's pretty large, 53" circumference at the widest point. the colors on the inside are much brighter than the outside, so I assume they are faded. It's in perfect condition, so don't know how old it might be. Any guesses?? It's a really nice basket.
