This handsome and impressive bracelet dates from the late 1950's, in the first photo, made by the well known Canadian firm of "Sherman" designed as a 1" wide tapered leaf cluster motif bracelet featuring alternating lines large and small round shaped crystals with a marquise crystal leaf motif center. The bracelet is done in a series of dazzling and intense changing Alexandrite, lilac and deep purple colors, in round shaped and marquise shaped crystals set in a rhodium plated setting. Alexandrite is a very rare (and very expensive) variety of gem-quality chrysoberyl. Although most people have probably never seen a natural alexandrite, this gemstone has replaced the traditional pearl as the modern June birthstone. Alexandrite is a birthstone for June, along with pearl and moonstone. Alexandrite is also the gem for the 55th wedding anniversary. .... H &G

In accordance this astonishing bracelet was bought just over 2 weeks ago and I received it January 7th, 2018, due to the seller holding off mailing as I was buying a rare pin from him also.. Very few bracelets Sherman made, use Alexandrite stones, so aquiring this one was extremely expensive. Photographing was extremely difficult to show the changes in colour as they actually look, but I am very happy with the colors in the photo being quite accurate !~

I have this bracelet also in clear. Alexandrite is the hardest to find, and I did not see even one of this design in the book on Sherman, also the only other piece I have other than the large lacy alexandrite bracelet by Sherman which I have posted previously... I have included the photo of the lacy alexandrite bracelet also to show that bracelet in the more colours. That bracelet is much wider and in the second photo. You can see the light pink stones almost beginning to show purple. This design is actually not in the Sherman book at all, so it seems it may be the only alexandrite one that exists or known about.

My favourite time to view this bracelet is indoors about 5:30 in late April when there is still light, and the stones seem to be all in shades of purple, astonishing bracelet !~

Magnificent Sherman bracelet Phil, one of your loveliest, and so appreciate the alexandrite gem history. Congrats on this beautiful piece!

      Stunning piece Phil, congratulations.
I am interested in how you got all the shades of the alexandrite to show in one photo, when I assume they were all under one type of light. I thought the whole bracelet would change from pink to purple to blue in entirety. Oh, just realised: the stones have started as variants of alexandrite and then they also change under light - is that right?
      It's a magical piece.

Thanks valentino 97 for the comment. I only have one other alexandrite bracelet but I have 3 similar design bracelets in different colours. I believe I have some other alexandrite brooches also which I have never posted.

Racer4four, thank you, you are right as the bracelet really would sparkle if worn and as the light changes it really would change colour. Usually a lot of the blue stones would turn purple especially in indoor light, where they would be med blue outdoors or in that type lighting. Also these alexandrite brooches are "always" matched with purple rhinestones when made. So the dark purple ones in the photo are the purple rhinestones.
The lighting used was non changing and bracelet not moving so I tried to get the right colours the first time I photo'd it !~

Quite a jump you're making, from mascots to jewelry, Phil. Yeah, I'm still kicking !

Thanks BB2, appreciate you're stopping by. I am hoping and praying that you find your home well. I like to take on tasks that I knew nothing about and jewellery was by far something I always wondered about but did not try to collect. The learning curve was most welcome.

Things are better since my bike arrived (32 day wait). Neighbourhood wasn't so bad, but the rest of the island is a mess. Mash-up, as we would say in Jamaica. Some yrs. back, I started picking up emeralds, but some girl or another always ended up with them after I had them mounted. I would pull out my on loupe & the store owners then brought out their hidden tray.

The first bracelet also goes to the lavender colour especially in lights like the bathroom where it is in nice in laverder shades. Incandescent bulbs put out about 5% light and the rest of the output is made into heat. And they do get so hot at times...

Stunning ! Did you take the picture in natural light or did you use the UV light? I have the same bracelet in lilac and deep purple with matching earrings.
    17. PhilDMorris PhilDMorris, 4 years ago
The first pic was natural light while the second pic was on a porch with some incandescent light, thanks for commenting, Sorina !~
