This may not be an imperial urn. I don't know enough about it. It is bronze and there are no makers markings on it. It has a large dragon around the neck with bird scenes on both sides. The dragon appears to be pressed out of the bronze from the inside and then has been backfilled with a hard material for strength. The piece stands 30-3/4" tall and is approx 16" wide at the handles. I would appreciate any help in identifying it.
I don't know if it's any help ~ But, I just saw something about 'dragons' and that in the "OLD" days 'five toed dragons' were only for royalty! So, if it's VERY OLD and has 5 toes depicted, it may be from some important royal dynasty collection. Good Luck!
Post it in the Asian Antiques show & tell - and get close ups! Mention how much it weighs, as well. Nice Patina on that beauty!
The Dragon Toe info is above incorrect. Many Chinese antiques have dragons with multiple counts of toes! Not just 3 toes are Korean or 4 toed are Japanese! You can look up Asian Dragon Lore on line.
