Picked up this pair of 18" long 16"tall wooden"RedJacket" and also " Cutty Sark " models for $10.00 from my local yardsale app. I ntended to clean them up a bit and give as a Christmas gift ....but the minute water ouched the sails the material turned black as soot....and the strings are so brital that the slightest touch crumbles them. Im debating if i should & could redo them myself or toss them ....was my bargain gift a mistake or is there a possibility that i got lucky??

Thanx for your advice MacDaddyRico. I did I couldnt resist, I decided I would atleast have fun with them before throwing them away & went to work on one....restringing & painting the sails ((LoL--with an off white colored fingernail polish) and despite how it sounds its coming along fairly decent. . But I am happy to say the nail polish helped me to stumble on something very useful.....NON ACETONE POLISH REMOVER WORKED WONDERS ON CLEANING THE SAILS. So maybe the second one can still be salvaged . I will post pics when finished.
