I just got this yesterday, a seller on Etsy sold this to me. It is a wonderfully kept Sea Urchin basket, made by a member of the Passamaquoddy Native American tribe. It still has great color on it, and no damage at all. It is 7 inches in diameter and 3 inches in height, made of splints from the Ash Tree and braided Sweet Grass for the design on the lid. There is also Sweet Grass lashed to the rim of the basket, and it is dried out completely. The smell of Sweet Grass is one of my favorite fragrances in this world, I just ordered some more braids for my house and my moms house too. That smell hits me the moment I come through the door, for me that is something I look forward to! With some old baskets there is no longer that great smell coming from the Sweet Grass and this is one of those baskets. I love the shape of Urchin baskets, they are my most favorite shape to collect. I saw this and of course I had to have it, it is a museum quality basket and a great addition to my private collection.
Enjoy the pics :)
