My late Dad used to change the oil when the Hindenburg docked in Lakehurst, NJ. He worked for the Tidewater Oil Company which had the contract for changing the oil of the 4 Daimler-Benz 1,200 hp Diesel engines. In these photos he’ wearing a Veedol jump suit and is on the right side of the first photo and the lower left in the second photo. He was present and assisted in rescue attempts and firefighting during the 1937 crash. (As I recall, Dad said that each of the engines required a barrel of oil.)

It appears he;s going to squirt us in the first photo. Or is it a pneumatic tool?
      Nice historic connection.

Thanks. Whenever video footage of the crash was broadcast, normally during the anniversary of the crash, my Dad would go to the TV screen and point to an indistinguishable guy in a Veedol jump suit, holding a fire hose, and exclaim “That’s me!”

Man what a story !!! He didn’t happen to keep any of the old Veedol drums did he?

The last I recall seeing any Veedol items in the basement was during the 1960’s. I have no idea where they ended up.
