Dang it! I just did the entire description in the title line again. Anyway the basin is 20" across from handle to handle. I have basins that are deeper but none this large with a lid. Also no lids this large. The lid is the best part of this set. As this has scorch marks on the bottom water was heated in it. The lid made it much more efficient. I am writing short sentences. I don't know why.
Basins like this would be used for washing this and that. Could be for hand washing, dishes, laundry (a small load). One may only have a few socks or undies so wash them out every day. These went out of style after sinks became common, that and water heaters. Something like this would have hung on a chuck wagon although those would probably have a handle so it could hang over a fire.
The last photo is the other view of my deck. It's a nice space I haven't cluttered up yet. It's a nice place to have a beer.

I would love to share a beer there with you Fort, before the grand tour!
This looks a perfect dish for a foot soak.
