I am researching this item for a county park in San Jose. They are the caretakers of the estate of the Martial Cottle family. Would just like to know the history of this so we have something to share with the visitors. Like how far were they distributed, how many were made, if it's a type that was common or made for a limited time, etc.
There are 359 known and authenticated Nippon marks and the one pictured is not among them. Normally the crown would indicate either Royal Nippon or Imperial Nippon but the crown in this picture is not one they list. As you attempt to research this keep in mind there are lots of fakes out there. You may be better served to contact one of the Nippon collector clubs. I will post a link below to the Nortake Collectors guild. I am sure you already know Nippon is now Nortake. You could request they check their archives.
