I inherited my mother's service for 8 with platter and serving bowl. The pattern is called Strawberry Fair made by Johnson Brothers of England. She got the set as a wedding gift. One teacup plate is missing, and I've been searching quite a while to replace it. Here's the problem: many of the pieces are marked "PAT PEND" and no pieces are numbered. My mother was married in 1958. I can easily find teacup plates and other items in this pattern, some reasonably priced even, but have found nothing online or at estate sales that have that PAT PEND mark. My parents managed to keep the set in wonderful shape despite having 6 kids, and these were used regularly throughout the years. Would love to find the missing piece to complete the set.

Did you try replacements.com? They are in the Carolinas but they are good about answering questions and other replies. They do have your items but they state it was only made from 1959 to 1973.

I searched that site for items in this pattern but didn't contact them because I was afraid I'd wind up getting a lot of junk email. Thought I'd ask here in case anyone knew about trial or promotional sets. But maybe I'll try your suggestion. Thanks for your help.

They do send junk mail after they answer your question but they are very good about stopping sending it.

At the bottom of most emails from businesses is a Click Here To Stop Receiving Notifications (from their site on that general topic) hyper-link. I think it's legally mandated as they're all formatted the same.

Do you really need to find the replacements to say pat pend? It just means that the patent was pending when the plates were made, and others of the same pattern will be the same, just made after the patent was approved!

Thank you fhrjr2, SpiritBear and AdeleC for your input. My mother died 10 years ago. Nobody else in the family wanted the set because of the girly pattern, but it reminds me of my mom, definitely something she would have picked out as a young bride to be. My dining room is kind of Boho, (not intentionally) and the pattern is fitting. I started looking for the plate after I had unpacked the set and found one missing. I discovered they were patented in 1959, the year my sister was born. My parents married in June of 1958. I took a closer look at the backs of the set and found the PAT PEND marks. It is more for sentimental reasons that I'd like to find that particular piece, and I've kept my eye open for it almost 10 years now. Though an incredibly durable set, I'm a little afraid to use it because I can only find the patent numbered pieces for replacement. I do thank you all for your help. If you ever hear of any other possible source let me know.
