Jan Cerný (1907-1978) was one of Czechoslovakia's greatest glass artists and glass teachers, and taught many of the country's glass masters at both Jablonec and Zelezny Brod.
This glass sculpture was made during a period later in his life when he worked at the Majak Studios, Jablonec, and during this period he produced a number of different cast glass sculptures.
Cast from yellow glass which is UV reactive, the sculpture appears to have been physically worked on the front so that some sections are quite chipped and rough and other areas are quite glossy. This lady has been fully polished on the back and sides, and there is a very feint signature on the back just below the Art Czechoslovakia clear label. She measures 22cm high and weighs 2.6kg.

I recently put this beautiful sculpture up for sale, trying as I am to clear things out. There was horror in the household and I was forced to remove it from sale. To be honest, I'm glad we're keeping it.

What a gorgeous face sculpture Karen, it has that modern art style to it, and that lovely yellow glass must brighten a window

Thanks Jenni for your love and comment. I have it sitting in an internal window presently, and she remains serene.

I thought maybe Ellis Island was an important place for statues in the US at first Trey!
I get the Easter Island thing though. Thanks :)
