This is a 1920 german shadowbox. It is very cool! My grandparents, who are from germany, received it as a wedding gift. When my grandma passed, my grandfather gave it to me when he moved out. I found the exact item on ebay, selling for 400$. But there is something very different from the original artists shadowboxes!! This one has music and lighting in it. My grandpa said that it was like this when he got it in the 50's. So I don't know if the artist did it or someone else did. There is a mini phonograph under the range, cylinder needles and all! The wind up key is in the back, and one of the spoons pushes back to start and stop the music. Also, there is a spot for a battery on the back, and my husband says there are spots for lights. Someone put a lot of work into this thing, and it is really neat! Any info or what its worth woulb be helpfull! thank!
I have one almost identical! I have been searching for more information on it with no luck. The bible is on the right bench and the hat is on the left. I never noticed that the lantern is wired to a battery to light up as I have never seen it light up! Mine has a small yellow label on the back that says Hofbrauhaus 156.
Hi, I lived in Germany for 4 years and I saw many of these, old and new. The new ones were still pretty pricey. So I am sure yours would be worth more. They do remake from the old....so there may be others that look like this from being copied. I have a small one and I love it.
