I scored this mid-century cabinet at the Salvo this weekend for $50, and it's in pretty great condition aside from the old-house smell and broken knobs. It's made in two separate pieces that stack together, and the lower compartment has a movable shelf inside. Someone had added a small sliding drawer for a keyboard, which I removed.

Does anyone recognize the style or maker?

I'd love to find replacement knobs for the 3 that are broken, but seems like I might have to have them made. I didn't see any markings on it, but will look again tonight...

Can you tell what sort of wood/veneer it is made of? (almost looks rosewood on its top but the grain doesn't look right on the doors...) Anyways -- a nice cabinet. Wooden knobs like that shouldn't be too difficult to re-make by most anybody with a good lathe...? :-)

How odd is that, that the pulls broke as they did!?! Most people use molds now tho don't they? I'm sure if you set out to find some that you will. Go to Etsy and see if you can find someone there. There are a lot of very good furniture makers there. I don't think they would charge a whole lot to remake these for you. You may also want to try and google mid century wooden furniture knobs and pulls and start a search there. You'll find something you like. I wonder if these were made each with two pieces...it wouldn't make sense but neither does the way they broke. Good luck.

Thanks for the comments y'all! I have looked around online and can't find anything wood that matches the backplate/conical knob style. There are some brass versions, but they're different sizes (and they have to fit into a circular indention in the doors. I'm unclear on the wood/veneer (I believe it's mostly solid but don't know much about types of wood). The knobs look like a single piece of wood.

I'm wondering if the knobs broke in transit / after it was donated. Looks almost like someone just whacked them off with a hammer. My backup is definitely finding a woodworker to re-create them. ;)

It's a stylish cabinet, very euro in look. I guess you have looked for maker's labels or stamps.
It's sad but true that lots of damage happens after donation.

Hunter You are right about a one piece knob. I would guess the wood to be bocote but not positive. The grain on the knob is pretty open. Only take an hour or so to turn a knob once you match the wood.
