This is an unusual Sixth plate tintype with an affectionate young couple.
It is very unusual to find couples in this era showing any sort of affection. The typical pose will show a man seated with the wife standing behind.
The photographer has added slight blush to both of their cheeks and some gold tint to the buttons and jewelry.
This is a true sixth plate and not a loose image recently mounted in a case, as is often done today to add value. The mat scrapes/ ring attest to this image being cased since it was made in the 1860s.
While it would look great housed in a full case, the photographers numbering "0690" on the plate and case back also affirms this was originally cased.
Reproduction of my images in any form is prohibited.
This is wonderful Scott :-)
