SEEKING ANY CLUES to suggest what this item actually is/was, and/or what I should do with it. :-)

I've had it for nearly 40yrs myself, having found it at some sale someplace when I was a teenager. I thought it was cool then (and still do) thinking maybe it could make a neat little lap desk, display case, or something. (and maybe it's ultimately a good thing now that I never actually *acted* on any of those ideas back then, potentially wrecking it...?) It is about 2' wide, 21" deep, and 5-1/2 - 7" high overall.

The entire thing is made of oak, except for the masonite drawer bottom and the one thin strip of wood now near the top of its rear edge. (which might not be original to the rest of the piece?) There were also 5 masonite partitions for the drawer when I got it, which have now long since gone missing. The blue painted logo on its drawerfront advertises "FLINT HOLLOW GROUND CUTLERY", apparently a popular brand made by ECKO in the 1950's-60's.

When I got it, I kinda guessed it had been a store display case that had lost its glass top...looking at it again now I don't get that same impression at all, as its inside doesn't really look 'nicely made' enough to have been meant to be 'on display' like that. However, it still seems likely that it was some part of a store fixture...but what?? If it didn't have a glass lid, it still had an angled one...why?? Could it have been (the top?) one of a stack of similar drawers??

Does anybody else recognize it as anything??

I'd also WELCOME y'all's creativity to suggest what I might to should do with it. Still sorta think it could make a fun little display case with a glass top added...whadda y'all think??
