This vase got my attention. I have not seen too many cut-to-clear two-coloured vases before. The vase is most likely cut crystal, not glass. The workmanship is rather good but the design is not too interesting. To be honest, I find the colour combination a bit odd. The base of the vase is flat and shows some signs of wear/minor scratches. Because I have not found a similar piece on line yet, I cannot date it or say where it comes from, or who made it. If I had to guess I would say that it dates to the earlier half of the last century and might be European.
Any help or comments are greatly appreciated.
Thanks for looking:)
Many thanks, AdeleC:)
Thanks a lot, ho2cultcha:)
It will be Bohemian or Czech. Czech beaker will get you started. I think that yours might be later. There have been revivals of this type of ware over the years. It is a toasting glass or beaker.
FREUNDSCHAFTSBECHER and FUßBECHER are two terms to search.
If you look really carefully I think you will see that the red and the orange were painted on rather than flashed during the making of the glass. Earlier pieces were much more complex.
Vetraio50, thanks so much for your help! I looked at some of the images when I did the search based on your information and - OMG - there are some wonderful items out there! Mine doesn't fit in. Too bad (I paid a very, very small fraction of even the cheaper examples so it's OK). I agree with you about the lack of complexity in my piece. I found it not creative and rather simple myself. As for the finishing, I noticed that the orange is very shiny, glass-like, while the reddish colour has a more rough finish. I dried to see if it comes off but it doesn't. By the way, the size of my item is 5 inches by a bit over 7 inches.
Once again may thanks for your help! I will spend the rest of the evening looking for Freundschaftsbecher, Czech beakers....
I didn't find too many items like mine but I came across this one:

Mine vase has a pattern that looks more "busy" but the base is very similar.
Thanks again for looking:)
