Wondering if any of our resident pottery experts can tell me anything about this candle holder. I bought it at a neighbor lady's garage sale when I was a teenager in the 1980's, because I liked it and it matched my bedroom. :-) No idea where she got it nor how old it already was before she put it out in her sale. It came in very handy just a few years ago during an extended power outage, but other than that its mostly just sat around ever since without my ever giving it a second thought.
After coming across it again in a box the other day, I remembered again how much I first liked it (the colors in its glaze really *are* fun!) and took the opportunity to clean the accumulated dirt/wax/etc (whadda mess?!) off. Noticed for the first time ever (since I never looked before, I suppose?) that its underside is stamp marked "MADE IN GERMANY" (twice) and also has the number "3040" hand (?) scribed into it. [+ a couple spurious grease-pencil marks?] Its base is about 5" across, and it stands about 6" tall.
SO -- now I guess I'm asking y'all's help -- should I find it a new spot to live on one of the "good stuff" shelves, or just leave it mixed in with the rest of my 'general junk'?? <wink><giggle> THANKS IN ADVANCE for any further knowledge about it :-) :-) :-)
Thanks so very much to fortapache and racer4four for hitting the <love it> button! :-) :-) :-) I'm kinda surprised that nobody seems to have recognized anything about this candlestick...??
An additional detail I forgot to add, which isn't easy to see in the pics. Its base (and maybe the bottom of its stem?) appear to be hollow, at least to some degree. I cannot explain why it looks like at least part of its 'inside' is also glazed, while most of its actual bottom is not ... ???
hmmm... i'll keep this in my mind
