I got this at a small town thrift store for 2o dollars about a year ago. Its been in storage but I want to use it on an old antique round print I bought. It's in pretty good shape over all but needs a little repair at the eagles neck as there is a crack. It most likely held a mirror but will work perfect for the old print I have. It is 31 inches high and 22 inches wide and will hold an 18 inch dia. picture or mirror. I feel it was a great find.
They normally had a convex mirror or sometimes called bulleseye mirror. They look great over a fireplace. Originally they were called Regency and the first period was normally 1810 -1820. This is an earl 1940's one which had a much smaller eagle. This is roughly the right size for them. The earlier ones were much bigger the smallest being around 40 inches tall. The neck would be an easy repair.
the thirteen stars or baubles around it represent the original 13 colonies. this is an American one. alot were made around the centennial - 1876.
Thank You PhilDMorris and ho2cultcha for the imformation, And aura and fortapache for the love. I really appreciate all of the collectors here sharing their knowledge, Thanks Again.
