This is a tall bowl/vase of flaring quadrilateral shape with a relief design of heavy swags. Its colour is amethyst though they looked to have been short of colourant on the day. Not unusual when even the minutiae of the glassworks were in the hands of the central bureaucracy put in place by the colonial power.

I did once own this shape in turquoise, two sides glossy and two sides satin. That one was the vase version with its own turquoise glossy glass frog.

At the rim 22x22 cm. Height 10.5 cm.

I have always loved this drapery shape. A quite art deco shape and beautifully balanced.

Me too, Karen, I love it's lines. Andy McConnell's recent rant really showed his limited scope as a 'glass expert'.

These make a change to your usual flare. It's nice to see something different.

What was Andy McConnell's comment? I must admit he can be a bit annoying on the ARS

I'm very fond of this stuff. I still have some smaller pieces on display but the larger vases and bowls have been packed away for some time.

Andy McConnell was telling people what glass NOT to buy! Specifically moulded/pressed glass, and that you could distinguish it by the 'seams' left by the mould! He got a lot of flak and tried to make out he'd been misunderstood.

No wonder he got flak. What a daft thing to say. Some people (myself inc.:) like to see prominent seams, they're part of the glass' history.
