First and foremost -- I readily admit I don't know squat about "art". Or at least the sort of art with "galleries" and "showings" and "high dollar price tag$". ;-) Nonetheless, I like both of these pieces, and think they look reasonably good together on the wall here where I've recently paired them. :-)
On the top is a print on ricepaper. A gift from a friend ~15yrs ago, I believe it is a representation of an Asian "dragon" figure meant to bring 'wealth and prosperity'. I can't honestly say I remember whether he "drew" it, "printed" it, or just "got" it, (I wanna think both the former, though) only that he seemed to know a great deal about its origin/meaning (as well as the several similar others he also had) and I liked it enough to immediately get the full-glass frame and hang it up. It measures 11" x 14", and is unsigned.
On the bottom is a slightly different story. I just recently (re-)discovered "Suicide" loose in a boxful of stuff Mom had 'saved for me' from my high school years. I immediately remembered it as having been a gift from one of my friends back then, likely one of his own art class projects. The titled and numbered (7/10) print is about 7" (not quite) square and also signed by the artist, I've obscured his name with a small bit of post-it paper for these pictures, to protect his privacy and because I don't really have any particular permissions whatsoever to show it anywheres but on my wall. I now have it framed for display in an old (1940's?) 10" x 12" brass-tone portrait frame.
Once more, I felt the need to deface my own pics here with a "DON'T COPY ME" text box to hopefully discourage unauthorized use...sorry about that. :-(
OH -- and don't think for a moment that I missed the irony of displaying "prosperity" and "suicide" together... ;-) :-) <lol>
