My Dad has always been artistic, he played in a band when he was in his 20's and he still does from time to time. He has a drum kit in a corner of the dining room in the house I grew up in, just like he did when I was young :)

He also liked to draw and paint, but for some reason he stopped before I was even 10 years old. I think he stopped because he was always working third shift at work, a job he kept for almost 40 years before retiring, and having to catch sleep during the day hindered him alot. I mean, it is hard to sleep during the day to begin with and having 3 kids in the house at the time did not help I am sure. But he never really got back in to painting. He started getting really into photography and that helped him get out his artsy side.

This was painted by him in the early 1950's, and he gave it to my maternal Grandma right before I was born. They did not get along well at all, as a matter of fact it took decades for my Grandma to begin saying nice things about him LOL. But as far back as I can remember and no matter where she lived, this painting always hung in my Grandmas dining room on the wall. It kind of confused me that she would do that when she did not like my Dad at all but I never asked my Grandma about that. I guess I did not want to know the answer or get my Grandma to start bad mouthing Dad. Anyhow, when my Grandma moved into an assisted living place she gave me this painting. She passed in December 2016 and I miss her alot. This painting now hangs in my living room and I love it. There are no covered bridges like this where I grew up but there are in Pennsylvania and that is where he says he saw them. He also made the frame for this out of Walnut and over the years it has darkened to a beautiful, warm brown.

They are hard to find unless they are protected by law these days. I go out of my way to see them in my travels . Covered bridges always make you think of the" old days " Great family treasure.

      Thanks guys!

When I was around 14 we were in Lancaster PA visiting my grandparents. I was again looking at this painting on the dining room wall and noticed something. I asked my Dad, "Where are the wheel tracks on the other side of the bridge?"

He got up, went to the painting and looked at it. Then he turned around and looked at me and said, "Well what do you want, a reward for pointing that out?"

      LOL!!!
