This is a ring that belonged to my Mom. It is set with tiny rubies and emeralds. What I am finding so unusual isn't the front but back of the ring head where the stones are. The little stones are prong, open back set. The two larger red single cut stones, are prong set but they are screwed in to the head of the ring. you can see the threads on the screws. I couldn't get a good scan of the back of the ring. So has anyone ever see this type of stone set before? If so what can you tell me about it?

Is there a stone missing from the centre?

Yes, I used to think there might have been a tiny diamond but just dreaming I guess.

A photograph of the back is really needed.

I just added the second image but it is hard to see but in the top part and the bottom you might be able to see the two bumps. So much reflections hard to get a good image but anyway the bumps have threads. the end of the screws look flat like the end of a bold. So the head and the gemstone bolt or screw both must have threads. I have several hundred rings and none are like that.
