Hi everyone... I picked this up at an estate sale thinking it was an old lampshade. But now I'm wondering since the hole in the middle is so small, I just don't see how it would attach. And the base is so ornate and detailed, I wonder if it could have been used for something else. Any ideas? It's still beautiful no matter what it was used for but I am curious. - Adding a note (and better pictures)... the base, in pic 4, is what made me thing light shade since it's open and there's a removable screw.

This appears to be a compote or maybe even a serving dish. My guess would be a serving dish since it is so fancy. The pics on my phone opened very small and when I tried to enlarge them, they were blurry.

I appreciate your input TimeTraveller... I edited to add better pics and a shot of the bottom, which is hollow inside with a screw (?)

Definitely a comport. The metal base can be removed for cleaning separate to the glass dish. It's beautiful!

Thanks for all the love everyone! I think I'm going to go ahead and call this solved. Honestly, I don't care that much what it is, it's just gorgeous and I'm going to enjoy it!
