This splendid example of a late Remington desktop typewriter came on my path 2 days before Canada's 150th anniversary on June 29th 2017, and upon investigating I discovered that this typewriter, which was sold as a 1967 model, was dedicated to Canada's 100th anniversary (1867-1967). It is beautiful piece in surprisingly prime condition, with the body being plastic and the machine being well over 50 years old. Remington produced high quality machines up until the 1960's when their durability became questionable as Remington-Rand was bought by the Sperry Corporation in 1955, until their merge with Burroughs in 1986. However, despite the fact that this was made during the Sperry era, this model still holds onto Remington's classic durability, as it mechanically is no different from a Remington Super-Riter, which was the 24's predecessor, manufactured from 1950 to 1965, when the 24(D) successes this model. However, there were little mechanical differences to these rugged machines that are still surprisingly popular in Asian and third-world countries. This particular Remington 24 is a wide-carriage model. It being from 1966, the face-plate does not carry the "Sperry-Rand" addition that came to be next to the "Remington" name-emblem which was introduced in 1969. This machine along with the Remington International is considered Remington's last desktop model, although in the late 1970's the model 100M was produced for a short while. However, there are no known survivors of that model.
A bonus with this typewriter is that it also has Italic font which is a bonus to come across, especially on an office-size machine. I found it with it's dust-cover and must say I am very happy to have this.
