Although It is most likely an inexpensive designer knockoff it is certainly not common. It drives me crazy not knowing it's origin I hope the community here can help me identify this piece.
I acquired this piece from a local thrift store, and have had a terribly difficult time identifying it. the base is a two piece chromed steel clam-shell design. The cushion is a single-piece tufted vinyl, colored vibrant reddish orange, and has a unique vintage pattern fabric sewn into the bottom. It is a great looking piece style wise, and although I would NOT say the build quality and hardware are on par with any premium designers like Herman Miller it is nonetheless a solid and comfortable chair. How should I describe it Italian... Danish... Art Deco... Ikea? I have found several key designers whom this chair seems to have been inspired by including Gastone Rinaldi (Sabrina Chair), Renato Zevi (Ellipse Chair), and of course the Barcelona Chair made famous by Knoll.
Thank you for looking!
Yes I saw the Rinaldi chair but yours do not have the back spikes which do not look as good as your chair back. I used to have a knockoff chair from Sears which I bought in the early 70's and left it at home for my mother. I love this design almost a barcelona design, beautiful !
Thanks for the comment and the lead Phil! I have been thinking it seems like a vintage mail order furniture piece on account of the packability and easy-to-assemble design. I don't know why I hadn't thought of Sears!
