I have long admired the bold presence of the iconic Chesterfield sofas, and so I was ecstatic to discover this vintage tufted sofa by Tomlinson Furniture. Apparently this nutmeg colored sofa was manufactured in 1963 (I think that is what the date stamp reads it is a bit faded), and is a very uncommon Mid Century (or should I say timeless?) piece. Tomlinson is know still today for producing quality high end furniture and this piece definitely reflects this. I am not the first owner of this handsome sofa, but if the stories are true this sofa was purchased in North Carolina, and is well travelled having spent time in homes in Athens Georgia, Chicago Illinois, and Indianapolis Indiana before ending up here. If anyone has any information to add specifically on how to decipher the tags, and what "30 Pony Cafe" means, I am sure we would all be glad to know!
There is an very faded hard-to-read tag on the bottom of the sofa (the RED tag in the photo) that reads something like this line-for-line:
"HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA
1639
***(illegible)*** ...DEPT 20
***(illegible)*** ...HAMS OF G...
***(illegible)***
***(illegible)***
MAR 25 1963
2725-60 SOFA NUTMEG
DELECTA CUSHION
30 PONY CAFE
AW50 1482 NATURAL"
I have serious Chesterfield sofa envy..very nice!...:-)
Thanks for comment! I see a lot of furniture come and go, but as soon as I got this one home I knew it was a keeper!
