I have just assumed this was Nostradamus but really not sure. I have no idea what language is being written or how to pronounce the artists name and what nationality it belongs to. It is oil on canvas. Any help with this mystery would be appreciated. I hate telling people it's something when I'm not sure it's true,

If you have researched Nostradamus at all then you know there are no known images of him and speculation that he didn't actually write the oracles of Nostradamus but was simple an inspiration for them. This could as easily be Diogenes writing about looking for an honest man. I believe your question will be forever unanswered.

Fhrjr2 Thank you for reply. I had never heard of Diogenes but he sounds like an interesting topic for me to educate myself on. I have never liked fiction but love history and those who made an impact on our world. Still wondering what language it is. I don't know how to find out about the painter since I can't write it in google to search.

Diogenes was a Greek in 412 BC who went out with a lantern at night looking for an honest man. He went town to town looking for an honest man but never found one. That is a brief explanation. I have no idea if he was a nut or serious but volumes have been written about him.

I think your search for Nostradamus may well be fruitless although someone may know the script. I would be interested in knowing what and where it is from

Well since there is a cross on the book, I would have a bit of doubt about it being Diogenes.

Perhaps look to people like Saint Jerome...
