Here is a vintage "Westinghouse" fan. I think the years manufactured was from 1926 to mid 1930's When I purchased it it needed a good CLEANING! ( Top view photo is a "before" photo). Tag date on top of fan reads 6/1/31, very small type in lower corner on tag.
The green felt on bottom of base was replaced with new. The cord I replaced with a vintage looking new cloth twisted cord. Found a vintage "ink blotter" , advertising Westinghouse fans. Runs nice and quiet.
I have a very similar one and cannot for the life of me separate the halves of the motor-housing. I removed the screws, but it's as if glued on. How was yours in getting it off?
Not sure, I didn't need to pull motor apart.
How, then, did you clean it?
I use "electrical contact" cleaner in a spray can. After you spray let fan sit for several hours. Or you will have a fire ball and a fan that will no longer work.
Usually I remove the old oil and relubricate them to maximise their span of existence (since I use my items regularly. )
If the old oil is left in, it acts as an abrasive and wears the motor out.
I did have one fan that exploded and knocked out the power after I attempted to repair it. Turns out, there was a break in the winding as well. Boom.
