I came across two volumes of Vie Privée et Publique des Animaux (1844 and 1868 editions) at a local antiques mall and snapped them up. I could not believe my good fortune. French fables and illustrations by Grandville make these true treasures!
Such a treasure, I love these animal drawings - is #4 the wolf from red riding hood, very nice!
Tres bien.
So glad you like, Newfld. It sure looks like the wolf from Little Red Riding Hood, but I don't think it is. I'll have to read that section and let you know.
Very glad you like, valentino97. I will take more photos today.
Merci, Caperkid.
Thank you for the love,

They all lead such complicated and magical lives in these books, the drwings alone must be so well worth it for this book, treasure !~
What INCREDIBLE treasures!! I'd love to stumble across these!
Thank you very much, Phil and Scott. I couldn't believe it when I found these, stacked one on top of the other, on a display shelf in a seller's booth. At first, I thought I might sell them or perhaps sell just one, but I cannot part with either. They're rare and just so beautiful.
Thank you for the love, nutsabotas6!
I'd definitely hang on to these. The're real treasures and you may never see another set like these.
Absolutely, Scott. They are keepers for sure.
Thank you so much, T.!
Thank you for the love, Manikin!
Thanks so much, Eileen. I know I need to get on this and post more photos!
I've been learning French for a while now. We had a friend from Lens visit a couple years ago, and I started learning the language so I could converse with him (although he speaks English well). I've been an on again, off again student so I'm not proficient or fluent but any stretch of the imagination.
