I have this 1866 Singer Swing Machine that was a gift from my grandparent when I graduated. I dont know alot about it but I was wondering if someone out there does. It is in good working order all the parts are there and it has a serial # of 14666422. Thanks Michele
What you have is a hand crank Singer model 27 in a Bentwood case . From the Singer web site it gives the date of your machine as being 1874 . The decals seem to be in fair condition except right along the front edge of the bed . Overall it seems to be in very good contition . This is a very collectable machine .
Why is it marked 1866 ? What would you say the over all value of this item would be?
jtnsm : The date is not usually on a machine . For the age of a machine you go by the serial number . That is what I looked up on the Singer web site to come up with the year 1874 . Where is the number 1866 ? As to the value that depends on several things . Condition is the most important along with age . Also does it sew ? I do not mean just move , does it actually form a stitch ? Do you have the instruction book or attachments ? Do you have the key to the case ? All of those add to the value .
I can not give you a value without seeing it in person . However you can go to E-Bay and see what others like yours are selling for . That will give you some idea .
Yes it Sews. The number 1866 is on a metal peace by the needle part on the wood . Im not sure what that is called. There is no lock just a metal peace that turns to lock it in place. So I guess there is a lock. lol All the attachments that I know of are there. No book that I can remember.
BTW I have looked but have not seen one just like mine. If you see one could you give me a link or a clue as to the going price.
jtnsm : There is one just like yours on E-Bay made the same year with a price of $159.00 . Yours is in better condition than that one is . I did not look to see if it had any of the attachments with it or not . Yours would be wroth a little more than the one on E-Bay because yours has more of the decals in tack . If you want to see what it looks like go to E-Bay and type in " Hand crank Singer sewing machine " and you should be able to find it .
I forgot to tell you the metal part with the number 1866 is called the slide plate . The number on it could be the patent date for that part .

Darrylle : What you have is called a treadle machine and from the serial number the Singer web site says that it was made in 1935 in Clydebank , Scotland .
My wife was given a Singer sewing machine by my mother, which she still uses could you please let me know the history of this machine it has a number on plate ED 568297
Mick : According to the Singer web site your wifes machine is a class 15K , made Nov. 5, 1945 in Killowie , Clydebank , Scotland .
The machine in question (at the top of this thread) is a Singer 28 or VS3 and dates to 1897 - it's very easy to make mistakes reading the Singer website, it belongs in the range 14.048.000 to 14.919.999 dating to 1897.
Hi my wife found a singer machine in a skip model number 11752244 when would this have been made
