Friend has this trunk in her living room as a coffee table. I had never heard of Vanderman and noticed the name plate is dated 1897. She said the person that gave it to her years ago, refereed to it as a Seaman's tool chest, but thinking it might be a railroad tool chest. I was surprised at it's great condition. Also surprised at how heavy it is. Kinda of neat that it is now 120 years old. Only if trunks like these could talk. What stories it would have.
Vanderman made heavy duty tool boxes such as this, in the late 1800's to early 1900's, greendog.
