I wouldn't say for positive because to many years have passed. Years ago when you went to the movie theater on Saturday night there was a big black sign with white letters where they listed coming movies. I am talking back when we didn't have television and Edward R. Murrow announced the news on the progress of the Korean War before the cartoon and main event.
They do look like they were made for use with some kind of marquee or bulletin board, so they could be rearranged easily. (for the 'coming soon' movies, tenant directory in an office lobby, directional signs in hotel corridors, etc. etc.) Their font looks very 1950's to me -- are they really made of stoneware/ceramic?? (that'd be interesting, if so?!)
Possibly Mittens Manufacturing Co. Redlands, CA.

Looking back I often wondered how the lady in the lobby got those letters to stay up there without falling when she let go. I think it cost 20 cents for Mom, Dad, sister and I to get in. Sounds cheap but prevailing wages in Vermont at the time was 30 cents an hour. We had a real ice box not a fridge, an outhouse, and kerosene finger lamps. Times have sure changed a bit. First time I saw an electric light come on I played with the switch until the light bulb blew out. After my spanking I never did that again.......I provoked my sister to do it.
Wow Thanks All for the information. Yes, they are some type of stone. After going thru the whole Container I found a couple of smaller letters that look to have deteriorated some. Making me think they are even older than the ones pictured. Updated photo's to be added.... #3 and #4 Thanks for all the information. Hey fhrjr2, do you turn the lights on now???? Love it my friend !!!
