Farm Estate Find Old Antique Cane Parasol/Umbrella, fold out no Material attached. Thinking material might have been linen. Only marking was on the metal piece to lock in up position. Unknown were it originated. ???? There is a cane Waking Stick just like this on the bay for sale, so my guess is that it really is Bamboo Cane any help Appreciated !!

It does look like bamboo. You didn't mention where in the world the farm was where you found it?? The natural curve in it would make me wonder if it is actually grape vine wood. Bamboo likes to grow more straight under ideal conditions where grape vine would prefer to wrap around something for support. I am speaking from my experience with both in North America.

The farm was in Eastern Pennsylvania. Grape vines are plenty. Huh, Wow. By looking close at the Stalk I guess you would call it has deep cracks looks like, but sturdy as heck. Solid. Thanks for looking and your input. I'm still Loss.....LOL Just wondering who would have made an umbrella out of a grape vine and How Cool that is. Thanks fhrjr2. Much Appreciated.

mikeigotit I come from that part of the country and items made from grape vine are always in demand because they are unique. All over the northeast the wild vines grow large ready for a good eye to harvest them. If you research items made from grape vine you will be amazed. Much more valuable than bamboo.

Hi, this is a type of grass/bamboo known as 'whangee', often used for umbrella handles.
