This is 15" long. It has a 12" Rule on the back. Has some other gradation on the slide? What was it used for?

I believe you have a very, very old slide caliper that was used to calculate materials for the carpentry trade. Your other numbers you don't show are quite possibly related to a slide rule calculation. The company was best known for their slide rules for calculating the number of board feet contained in a log or a standing tree. I have only ever seen two of their rules and both were far more than I had to spend. I would venture this is early 1800's.
Maybe a shoemaker's rule for measuring customer's feet.
Irishcollector Your user name caught my eye, I have a hand carved Connemara Marble swan sitting here in the original package and I have no idea where I got it. Package says the marble is only found in far western Ireland. Looks like a tourist thing but I haven't been in Ireland in 50 years.

I wasn't aware Jones made them, I learned something new today. Regardless it is quite old because what I read says Jones went out of business in 1843. I was looking trying to find their measuring rules.
Yes fhrjr2 this marble is used for a wide range of giftware as well as tourist items. They make everything from cuff-links and jewelry to the type of item you have.
