Photos of underside of spring base rocker as well as vinyl seat, thank you all for your resources. Could never quite figure the right query to get info on this chair. It is in pretty good condition if truly circa 1895.
    Thanks again

Yes, it had a cane seat, the holes around the perimeter for weaving. A replacement plywood seat was added later with the star pattern, and then the red cushion probably added in the 1950's - 60's. A fairly expensive restoration as both the seat and back would have to be recaned. The caning runs 1- 2$ per hole, if you can find someone to do it. You count the holes around the perimeter of the seat and back and multiply that.

rocker-sd you are right about an expensive restore. I also 100% agree with your assessment.

Thanks again, think it will be offered to someone who is better at restoration than I am. It should have a cane seat as I could see from the photo and would just be prohibitive for me to do. Appreciate everyone's info and input.

I am so excited, I found a similar chair in pristine condition! It has the cane back and bottom. Thank you so much for posting. I didn't even know the words to use in the search. Cheers!
