Perfect for Valentine's Day: This brooch might be made of sterling but it is not marked in any way. The flower is carved of some sort of bone. The leaves are enameled and embellished with marcasite accents.
I have seen almost identical brooches marked with "sterling" and "Germany". Those brooches supposedly dated to the 1940's. I am not saying that my brooch is like that but it is possible.

I enlarged and sharpened the photo and think it is marked - look carefully at the top of the pin, right above and to the left of the hinge. I see what looks like a "900" stamp which just about goes off the edge of the brooch.

Yep! Very nice brooch, the rose is carved ivory, carefully mounted with screws, certainly enameled silver from Germany :-)

Efesgirl, thanks for your comment. I checked with good light and my magnifying glass but I think there are only marks from filing down some excess material. It has happened to me before that I only saw the mark when I looked at the photos:)
