First off...let me say that I did not paint this beautiful trunk Carolina Blue. I love the Tarheels but would not have ever painted this beautiful piece. I am hoping someone could give information about this trunk. It is VERY heavy and the bottom is covered in metal. The handles are substantial and I love all of the metal work on it. What would it have been used for? Would anyone know how old it might be?It is 39.5 long, 17.5 wide and 14 inches high.

Marvin did get back to me and says in his opinion it was made by a trademan between the 1890's to 1930's. He also says, "I've seen many types of these chests and some very similar ones over the years. Many of them were made as tool chests and some were made for hauling or storing specific types of equipment or items used by a tradesman, i.e. carpenter, plumber, welder, etc., etc. I've seen quite a few old chest and some travel trunks that had metal bottoms. I've seen a wide variety of heavy duty iron handles on chests, but not exactly like these."
