I purchased this today. I am new at this. Can anyone tell me who made this and when? It has a 3 on the latches, I tried to get that in the pictures. You raise the front of the inside up and it latches on the inside of the top and stays there. I have never seen one like this before. The outside looks like oak but it’s just painted metal.

There were many manufacturers of this style of cross slat roundup trunk(some refer to them as monitor's)This style of trunk was mass produced from the late 1800's through the 1930's .Without a label it is difficult to say who made it. The best we can do is date the hardware. That is a wonderful embossed brass lock that you don't see quite as often. I will look for the patent in my files.

Pretty sure these guys made most of the hardware.
