Superb and rare visor cap of an officer of the Nazi Bahnschutzpolizei, or Railway Protection Police This near-mint example was produced by the prestigious manufacturer Clemens-Wagner of Braunschweig. The cap body is constructed of horizon-blue "doeskin" wool, without a single moth bite. The perfect black cap band is velvet, on which is sewn the unique hand-embroidered silver wreath and Reichscockade used by the Bahnschutz. The Bahnschutz eagle is mounted above the wreath. The vulcan fibre black visor has some minor age cracks. The interior shows light to moderate wear and is marked with the logo of the manufacturer on the celluloid sweat rhombus and the leather sweatband. The Bahnschutz joined SS formations protecting rail traffic and were also responsible for rounding up and transporting Jews to their fate at Auschwitz-Birkenau, Belzec, Bergen-Belsen, Buchenwald, Dachau, Mauthausen, Majdanek, Sachsenhausen, Ravensbruck, Treblinka and many others. Some of the Bahnschutz were actively involved in the infamous 1942 massacre of Jews in the village of Jozefow in Poland. These caps are difficult to find in any condition.
