I have been a long time Richard Brautigan fan. I have most of his works, and I never thought I'd own this early 1966 re-release of the 1958 The Galilee Hitch-Hiker, Brautigan's second collection of poetry. This edition was limited to 700 copies. I am thrilled. It is hand sewn and in wonderful condition.

Brautigan is famous for In Watermelon Sugar, and he also wrote Revenge of the Lawn; The Pill vs the Springhill Mining Disaster; Lay the Marble Tea; The Octopus Frontier; A Confederate General from Big Sur; Rommel Drives on Deep into Egypt; The Tokyo-Montana Express; So the Wind Won't Blow It All Away; All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace; The Hawkline Monster; Willard and His Bowling Trophies; Sombrero Fallout: A Japanese Novel; Dreaming of Babylon; Loading Mercury with a Pitchfork; Please Plant This Book; June 30th, June 30th; The Abortion: An Historical Romance; The Return of the Rivers; and Trout Fishing in America.

    Thank you for looking!

The cover with the ferris wheel is so pretty, and the poem titles are fascinating will have to ck this out. Is it ok to call you Laura or do you prefer betweenthelens, I'm Jenni (aka Newfld if you'd rather)

Hi Jenni! You can call me Laura. Someone named Kenn Davis did the cover art. Let me know how you like Brautigan. He's definitely different, was different. There's something beautiful and poignant about the way he wrote. You can find multiple editions of the above books just about anywhere except for the rarer copies like Octopus Frontier and other earlier books. Thank you for the love!

Thank you for the love, buckethead!

Hi Eileen! Nice to meet you, and thank you for the love! Oh my goodness! You DO love him as well. One of my favorite poems of his:

There is darkness on your lantern
      and pumpkins in your wind,
and Oh, they clutter up your mind
      with their senseless bumping
while your heart is like a sea gull
frozen into a long distance telephone
      call.

I’d like to take the darkness
off your lantern and change the pumpkins
into sky fields of ordered comets
      and disconnect the refrigerator telephone
that frightens your heart into standing
      still.

I was curious as to what Brautigan book you recomend I should start out with ? I have four or five I have picked up over the years, but have never sat down and read. I was waiting for the right moment.

Eileen and rockbat, In Watermelon Sugar was the first Brautigan I read, and it had a lasting impact. It made me a Brautigan fan.

Thank you for the love, rockbat, artfoot, and pw-collector.
