This old bowl has been in my kitchen cabinets (or on the table full of veggies, etc) for over 25yrs now (after being found in a thrift store) and remains one of my absolute favorites. :-) I presume (but don't know for certain?) that it was originally restaurantware, due to its very heavy plain white ceramic construction. On the other hand, not so many restaurants use 'family size' bowls like this as common serving dishes...so who knows? I particularly enjoy its rather elegant shape, with its well defined rim and foot. With these details it seems to me like it was obviously meant to be a serving piece (vs. a mixing bowl, etc) whether for commercial or household use. It measures roughly 9" across, and its bottom labels it as being made by the "CARR CHINA CO.".
