Looking for identification help:
Picked this up on a business trip to N Vietnam. Was not originally for sale, but saw it in the back of the shop. Shopkeeper was willing to sell after telling me it was very very old...
Dimensions are 2.25" across the max width, sits up 1.625" tall.
The inlaid lid fits very tightly with a small inner lip providing a complete seal.
Design has both organic vine/flower pattern with fine speckle and leaf vein detail. Also has a geometric shape on top. All in very fine inlays of (appears) gold and silver.
Inside is an ashy flat black and not particularly smooth.
Outside is very smooth and has a nice patina.
I saw nothing else like it when I was there and have been curious about it for years.
Age?
Original Function?
Cultural Value?
