I found this beautiful painting on Saturday. I located sitting behind glass, and immediately knew it was something special. I do not know who painted it, but I can say it is beautiful and that I really enjoy it. Can anyone make out the name or recognize the work?

The oil painting is done on board, small, only about 8x10 inches. It came in a frame but I removed it for the photo. Thanks for looking! Any ideas please feel free to comment.

I don't know the artist or location, however I made one observation. There is a worn walking path along the canal. Years ago a work horse or mule would pull a boat along a canal. Here is a link that explains better than I do.

Hey fhrjr! How's it going. thanks for chiming in. We have such a canal here in NJ, I was driving along the other day in Franklin NJ. I believe it runs along the Raritan River. Thanks for the help!

It is possible it could be the Midwestern artist Merton Willmore. But I dont think the signature matches exactly.

I have a Bucks County area oil painting my mother in law bought years ago when she was teaching school in NJ. She brought it to Florida and tucked it away in the attic. Mine is a similar scene but much larger and signed by Barbara Applegate. Researching it made my day when I saw the value in today numbers. It is still here somewhere in the mess. I know nothing about art work but my point is, it pays well to have the artist identified.
