    they have what appears to be the star of david inside them and floral designs outside and a gilded ring inside the rim - not on it. kind of strange, don't you think? probably not old.

      During World War II, though Japan was allied with Germany it refused to co-operate with any persecution of the Jews. A moderate number of Russian Jews found refuge there and a small Jewish community is still there today.

      These cups are intriguing. I don't have a lot of knowledge about Asian items but I do have a little spare time to do some research. Because of this mark, it is likely these were made for export and not for local consumption. It turns out this mark (or similar ones), if it is a printed mark and not hand-drawn, was used for decades from early in the 20th Century. Before WWII, China was the major trading partner with Japan and there was a large Jewish community in Shanghai. Porcelain ages well - these may have a little more age than you think. Cool items whenever they date from.
