I am still researching which glass artist made this vase, as it is unsigned and came with no box. The only identifier is the Toyama Glass Studio label.
Toyama is an important centre for art glass in Japan, with a world renowned glass school, glass museum, and this studio.
The studio has had many graduates of the school and other artists move through it, so I will have to check with them to find the maker of this vase.
It is well made, with 3 layers of glass. A fine pale blue inner case, a fine black layer over that, and then a clear case to finish. Thin trails have been added over the black layer, and sheets of silver and gold foil have been added over that. The shape is simple and allows the decor to be the main feature.
Like a lot of Japanese glass the initial view is quite simple and strong, however a closer look reveals complexity.
Height: 26cm
That's quite a remarkable vase Karen!!
Beautiful multi layered vase Karen, the design is so unusual & gorgeous - sounds like a lot of hard work went into it, to great effect
Looks very modern.Simple but eye catching.
The marble makes the vase look heavier, and so lifelike the marble garners much beauty in this design !~
Aaaah......less is definitely more in this case. Handsome!
Lovely photos, Karen, perfect background colour!

Hi Karen! For some reason, I stopped getting messages about the comments a couple years ago! I never could figure it out...
Now for this vase! Love, love it! You nailed the description right down to the end hitting the complexity as it should be. You are perfectly right!
Thanks babe! I wish the gold was real, then I would crash your house :)
Is this a new politics by CW?I don't get messages about comments either!
I got a CW message that they were joining forces with Barnaby's and that the site was being improved! In my, albeit limited, experience not all improvements go smoothly. I too no longer get emails about comments on posts!
