    Hello again everyone!!
In continuation of my Peter Cottontail posts, here's my 1941 copy of The Adventures of Peter Cottontail by Thornton W. Burgess. This edition was published by Grosset & Dunlop of New York and, as you can see, it's a nice crisp copy with no writing or torn pages. This was first published in 1914 by Little, Brown and Company of Boston. I have a 1932 copy of this as well. Just can't remember which trunk I have it stored in. When I find it, I'll post it.

That's Unc' Billy Possum pictured in the 4th photo.

Thornton W. Burgess wrote more than 15,000 stories in his lifetime. He and Howard R. Garis (famous for the Uncle Wiggily books) are two of my absolute favorite children;s book authors. I have many books from each of these authors in my collection.

Hope you enjoy see my Peter Cottontail book and thanks for stopping in!!

    Scott

The agent of Beatrix Potter did not procure the a US copyright thus several authors in the US wrote Peter Rabbit books. Sorry I couldn't help but add a bit of trivia.

Great early edition of a beloved story, one of my favorites

Thanks Phil!! I have quite a few of these Thornton W. Burgess books, including Reddy Fox, Buster Bear, Mrs. Quack and Unc' Billy Possum, among others.

Thanks fortapache!! Now that you mention it, there does seem to be many different publishers of Peter Rabbit books. I do have a complete 1984 Beatrix Potter book collection, in it's original display case, that was published by F. Warnes Co.

Thanks Jenni!! There are a total of 17 book titles, including this one, in this particular Thornton W. Burgess Bedtime Story Book series. All were originally published in the very early 1900's. I have several, but not all of them.

What a great copy of the book and a lovely figurine, too.
    8. jscott0363 jscott0363, 7 years ago
Thanks Laura!! The figurine is from the Old Mother West Wind characters. The figurines were released in the early 1970's by Goebel and were made in what was then known as W. Germany. Here's the link to all of my Old Mother West Wind characters.

I guess we had more Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter here than Peter Cottontail because hard as it is for you to hear Scott, I don't think I have ever read a Thornton . Burgess book. I'm very sorry, and will correct my failing ASAP.
    11. jscott0363 jscott0363, 7 years ago
Karen, That's OK I'll forgive you:) Peter Cottontail was only one of very many characters that Thornton W. Burgess wrote about. So many characters that I couldn't begin to name them all. Thanks for the fun comment!!

Thornton Burgess was loved by me in childhood, and my close friend Uncle Wiggly I will pick up and read every so often! My grandmother always took me to second hand stores and I found myself on the floor in the kid's book section. I never got over that love and that is where you can find me still. Ha Ha...no joke!!(only difference is it's hard to get up!! Lois

Thanks for the wonderful comment Lois!! Believe it or not, I find myself picking up an Uncle Wiggily Longears book occasionally. I love Thornton Burgess stories, but Howard Garis's Uncle Wiggily books are my absolute favorites!!
