You may be missing the stand?

An old time weather barometer, I think mainly for outdoor weather readings. Nice antique piece

This piece probably dates from ca. 1958. It is made to look like a very early satellite like Sputnik. At the beginning of the space age satellites were all the rage in the public imagination. There were hundreds of gadgets of all kinds made to look like them. I can't tell from your pics if it was supposed to have a stand or just sit on a table or shelf. If it sits solidly in a position where you can read all the dials inside then it may not have had a stand.

Hello buckethead,Newfld and UncleRon thank you so much for your comments and the link from buckethead. I’m very greatful for the info. I’m sorry I’m sometimes slow to respond, I have neurological illness that makes typing difficult at times, but I am always greatful for information and insight. It looks very much like the barometer in the link from buckethehad. The case is plastic and it dimes sit solidly on its own. It was another purchase by me for my nautically inclined husband who is very pleased with the info so thank you all again.

Excellent post however I was wondering if you could write a little more on this subject? I’d be very thankful if you could elaborate a little bit more. Many thanks!

It's an interesting design and a tool that can provide an array of useful data for short-term weather forecasting. I've seen it on desks in several movies and TV shows. (One day I'll have one of my own!)

See this for some interesting info on the design - https://jarontiques.com/shop/sold/1960s-west-german-huger-sputnik-barometer-weather-station/

You can find a lot on how a barometer works and how too use one. Here's an interesting place to start (long link, no affiliation): ht tps: //science.howstuffworks.com/nature/climate-weather/atmospheric/barometer.htm#:~:text=How%20does%20a%20barometer%20work,pressure%2C%20the%20mercury%20goes%20down.
